RANDOM START: Rise Against ‘Faint Resemblance’

I’ve pretty much given up on these guys.  Their releases have become progressively less appealing to me since The Sufferer & The Witness, save This Is Noise, which is excellent.  That’s to be expected when you go to a major and start getting radio play, but is still a total bummer.  I completely wore out The Unraveling and Revolutions Per Minute back in the early 00s.*

They’re still a fantastic live band that I’ll never be disappointed to see, but who I don’t make an effort to catch as much as I used to.

*First I realized that Dude Ranch came out 15 years ago, and now I realize that The Unraveling came out in 2001.  SOMEONE STOP THE CLOCK.  TELL BRADY TO SPIKE THE BALL.

Funny how some of my favorite songs from bands are b-sides or bonus tracks.  I think a common misconception is that b-sides are tracks that weren’t good enough to make the record, but in most cases, I think bands just feel like they don’t fit the particular theme or vibe.

This track was a bonus track on The Sufferer & the Witness, but then also on the This Is Noise EP, which is fantastic, if you don’t have it.  Links to purchase are above, as always.

I’m not sure I was fully prepared for Rise Against so early on a Monday morning, but it definitely could have been ‘worse’.  The video is from when they played Troubadour a few years back.  I was at one of the shows, not sure whether it was this one or not, and it was phenomenal.  In my opinion, these guys are one of the best live bands out there right now.

This is definitely one of my top 3 favorite tracks off of this album.  Unfortunately their new record doesn’t really do anything for me, it just feels like it’s missing something.  They still put on a great live show though.

In related news, there are rumors swirling of a Rage Against The Machine/Muse/Rise Against show in LA on July 30th.  Fingers crossed.
